ICRISAT seeks applications for the post of Consultant – Technical Officer (2 posts) to conduct vegetable research and extension services to implement its vegetable improvement program with smallholder farmers in Assam. The position will be based at Assam, India to work in the APART project funded by the World Bank. This position is open for Indian nationals only.

The APART project funded by the World Bank is a comprehensive development project of the Government of Assam, funded by the World Bank, and involving national and international partners including World Vegetable Center. The vegetable research and development activities will involve improving the quality and availability of seeds and seedlings, promoting climate resilient production systems and safe and hygienic production. This will be done in close collaboration with Assam government and university partners. These positions will be based in major vegetable growing districts of Assam, India, and are open for Indian nationals only.

Responsibilities:

Working under the guidance of the APART project leadership to implement project activities in the target locations, including;

  • Coordinating all project field activities in the assigned districts;
  • Provide technical assistance and supervisory support to farming communities engaged in implementing project activities;
  • Conduct field trials and demonstrations in the assigned district areas
  • Collect data, analysis and maintain records of all project activities;
  • Coordinate and organize trainings for farming communities and local partner agencies;
  • Assist in preparing periodic progress reports, technical papers and presentations for meetings and annual reports as needed for donors, project beneficiaries, and partners;
  • Provide technical inputs in training programs for farmers and partner agencies;

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma/Degree in Agriculture/Horticulture/Botany and at least 2 years’ working experience in projects related to vegetables.
  • Good working knowledge of agriculture, especially in local vegetable cultivation;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Assamese and English;
  • Good computational skills (MS Word, MS Excel) and familiar in handling variety evaluation trials;
  • Energetic and enthusiastic team player, with a passion to improve agricultural systems.

General:

This appointment is for one year as a Consultant. The positions will be based in Assam with an attractive compensation.
